Apple learns the hard way in doing business in China

Do you know the story about Apple in China? You know the big empire technology company that everyone uses around the world. The trillion dollar company.  Well, let me tell you about it...once upon a time....

Xintong Tiandi successfully obtained the trademark "IPHONE" for their leather products in China back in 2010. On the other hand, Apple's attempt to secure the trademark for electronic goods was initially filed in 2002 but faced a delay in approval until 2013.

During 2012, Apple faced a setback when they had to pay $60 million to a Chinese company that had already registered the iPad name. This payment came after a court in southern China ruled against Apple's claim to the trademark. In 2016, Apple experienced another defeat in a trademark dispute in China. Consequently, a company specializing in handbags and other leather goods can continue using the name "IPHONE".

The Beijing Municipal High People's Court ruled in favour of Xintong Tiandi Technology, said the official Legal Daily newspaper.

This is what Apple had to say:

"Apple is disappointed the Beijing Higher People's Court chose to allow Xintong to use the iPhone mark for leather goods when we have prevailed in several other cases against Xintong," said a spokesman for the firm.

It's a shame that it had to come to this. Don't let this happen to you! See our services how we can help you.
